StudyDesign AI

Your kid is doing Year 12 and you cannot help with the English essay.

Neither could most parents. What they need is not someone who knows Rear Window. It is someone who will read what they actually wrote and tell them which sentence is costing them the mark, at the hour they are actually writing it.

What you would otherwise be buying

A private VCE tutor in Melbourne is $40 to $60 an hour. One session a week for a year, at $50, is $2,600. It happens at a time that suits the tutor, and the exam is not the only thing your kid has on.

$110 a year, or $9.99 a month if you would rather pay monthly. Cancel any month. There is also a free tier that does not expire and does not ask for a card, which is where most students start.

It will not do their homework

This is the part worth being clear about, because it is the reason a lot of parents are uneasy about AI and a study tool. Ask it to write an introduction, a body paragraph or a conclusion and it says no, then hands back the structure the paragraph needs and a question about your kid's own argument. It marks work they have already written. It does not produce work for them to hand in, and it does not offer to.

Why it is not just ChatGPT

This is the distinction that is genuinely hard to evaluate from the outside, so here it is plainly. VCE is assessed against documents published by VCAA, the Victorian authority, and the marks come from criteria specific to each subject and each unit. A general chatbot has not read those documents and marks against a generic idea of good writing.

  • The 67 official VCAA study design documents are loaded in, covering 76 subjects.
  • 1,584 questions from past VCAA exams, and 791 model answers taken from the matching examiner reports.
  • Marking follows how VCAA allocates marks: a 1-mark question is treated differently from an 8-mark extended response.
  • Answers are tied to the exact unit and area of study your kid is being assessed on.

What happens to their data

Their work and their progress, and nothing that is not needed for that. It is not sold, it is not shared with anyone for advertising or profiling, and there are no social features, no messaging and nobody else on the platform who can contact them. The detail is in the privacy policy.

The honest way to try it

Do not buy it for them. Send them the link and let them use the free tier on something real, like the next SAC. If it is any good they will tell you, and if they never open it twice then it was not worth $9.99 a month either.
