- Suffix for alcohols
- -ol (e.g. ethanol).
- Suffix for carboxylic acids
- -oic acid (e.g. ethanoic acid).

- Aldehydes: -al (CHO at end). Ketones: -one (C=O in middle).

- –COO– (carboxylate + alkyl group from alcohol).
