TEEL + vocab + comparative structure. The exact moves an examiner expects.
- Structure of a body paragraph (TEEL)
- Topic sentence → Evidence (quote) → Explanation/analysis → Link back to prompt.
- What does 'sophisticated vocabulary' actually mean?
- Precise word choice, not necessarily long words. 'Anguish' over 'sadness' when specifically anguished.
- Quote integration — short quote
- Embed within your own sentence: '… Atticus warns that you ''never really understand a person'' until you walk in their shoes.'
- Author's purpose — keyword
- VCAA wants you to discuss what the author wants readers to feel/think — use verbs: 'positions readers to…', 'critiques…', 'celebrates…'
- Linking sentence — example structure
- 'This moment crystallises X's broader concern: that [thematic statement related to prompt].'
- Comparative essay — frame
- Don't alternate texts paragraph by paragraph blindly. Use a thematic comparison and weave both texts within each paragraph.
