Define health status
An individual's or population's overall level of health, taking into account various measures.
Burden of disease — units
DALYs — disability-adjusted life years. 1 DALY = 1 year of healthy life lost.
YLL vs YLD
YLL: years of life lost (mortality). YLD: years lost due to disability (morbidity). DALY = YLL + YLD.
Life expectancy — definition
Average years a person can expect to live, assuming current mortality rates persist.
HALE — what is it?
Health-adjusted life expectancy — years lived in full health (subtracting years in poor health).
WHO definition of health
State of complete physical, mental and social wellbeing — not merely the absence of disease/infirmity.
